Up & Coming Gigs...

Wow! September is almost here already. Kind of hard to believe that an entire summer has already gone by. It seems like it was just yesterday that it was Gay Pride Weekend here in Seattle and I was dead a** tired from all the playing and producing that was on the agenda. Aye Carumba!

There will probably be other dates added, but wanted to post what I have on the calendar for September thus far - so you can come and see me perform, catch the release of the latest issue of Hard Times Press, or just hang out!

So far for September:
Saturday 09.04: End Of Days @ Chapel. This is their new lesbian night. I plan on playing tons of electro and remixes! Get there early to grab yourself a spot and get your delicious martini on!

Sunday 09.05: Playing at HG Lodge on the rooftop deck for my good friend Shirlyn Meyer's 40th birthday! Woo hoo! If you remember The Back Door Lounge or ARO.space, you might wanna pop by. You'll see some of your favorites from back in the day. At least they are my favorites from back in the day. I plan on dropping all the best vinyl from my sets from then. Oooh....there's some good ones! Get at it!

Friday 09.10: Hard Times Press release at LICK! (Chop Suey). We are so excited to be launching issue #5 at LICK! MEN is on the bill, along with Mathematix, Dewey Decimal and General Meow. This is going to be off the chain! Come grab your copy ot the 'zine while you can! My friend, gay husband, business partner, and the object of many a gay boy's desire, David D$ Richey will be in town as well. If all of the other reasons for going fail, there's always that one! COME SEE DAVID!

Friday 09.17: Hard Times Press promo at Trouble Dicso (Re-bar). Not only are we doing another promo from Hard Times on this night (another chance to grab your copy of the new 'zine), but rumor has it I will be dropping a guest set and working it out Disco House style. Come and DANCE with me!

Saturday 09.18: ROAD TRIP!!! So excited to be playing Gaycation at Holocene in Portland. Met the gals that throw this night when I was down in Palm Springs playing for The Ace Hotel's Dinah events. They are GREAT, their night has an incredible reputation, and it's at one of my favorite PDX venues. I'll be doing a Live PA and a DJ set that night. Dropping some of my new material for the peeps in the 503. Can't wait!

That's it for now folks! More to come! Mark your calendars! Plan ahead! Hit me up for guestlist for any of these events! I wanna see your smiling faces!

Trannysnatchers!

Two of my favorite friends from PDX, Jimme Jamma and The Caedmonster are busy putting together this production and you should totally support! For those of you who are not familiar with them, one quick point of reference might be the video for Luxury A.K.'s 'Beat So Sick' video. They produced, filmed and directed that. Click here to watch it! It's me and Adraboo with some crazy/freaky party people in all our glory! Just the way we like!

Their new project, is a film called 'Trannysnatchers'. You gotta love the title right? They are trying to raise money for their film which they've already spent 6 days and almost 50 hours filming! The footage is hilarious. They are paying for everything out of pocket. Food every sunday to feed the cast and crew is $125... etc etc., etc.

They have a page on this neat website called Kickstarter.com (www.kickstarter.com) If they raise $2666.00 in pledges on there or more, they get the money. If not, they get nothing. People have already donated over $400, but they don't get a penny of that unless they meet the goal.

Here is the link to thier kickstarter page:

A Letter From The Film Makers:

Dear People,

I am writing you in regards to the film project I’ve been working on for the past couple months now. This has been a very unique experience in which we (the cast, crew and I) have the rare opportunity to combine many artistic disciplines into one project and work with some really inspiring people.

We are about half way through the filming of this movie, which has been funded almost completely out of our own pockets, some of us donating most of our paychecks to the cause. Why? Because we all feel so passionately about the core message of the film. We’ve learned in the process of making this that if there is a will, there is indeed a way. No amount of adversity can stand in the way of a group bound together in mutual respect and admiration for one another. We’ve learned that it is our differences, our unique perspectives, and experiences at the fringe of society that make us so valuable to each other, and to society as a whole. One of our cast members said simply, “This film is saving my life.” We carry hope that this intention and energy will carry past the screen and inspire others.

It is very easy to help us make this possible, by donating to our Kickstarter fund.
You can do so by clicking here:

Simply click the green “Back This Project” button and you’ve helped us get that much closer to our goal.

Kickstarter is a unique website set up to help artists with a slight lack of funding make projects happen. What’s great about this site, is that not only will your donation help us, but you are rewarded for your contribution.

The tier is like so:
Anyone who donates $10 or more gets a free ticket to the World Premier of Trannysnatchers! in the spring of 2011. Also, for $10, you get an official Trannysnatchers sticker. You can stick it anywhere!

For a $25 donation, you get an official Trannysnatchers T-shirt from Liberty or Death Industries, a sticker & a ticket!

For a donation of $50, you get a DVD with special features, a T-shirt, a sticker & a ticket! The whole spectacular package!

For even larger donations, you can receive even more spectacular rewards, detailed on our Kickstarter page.

If we do not reach our humble goal by our date, than none of the donations will clear and your account will not be affected at all. So if you donate, consider encouraging your friends to donate, too, to ensure that your goodwill gets to where you want it to go.

You can check out details about the film, see pictures from the shoots, and even watch behind the scenes footage on our Facebook page by clicking here.

Thank you for your consideration. Please help us make this happen. Your donation will not only go towards the completion of the film, but towards the distribution of it once it is finished. We plan to submit this to film festivals across the country and the world. We plan on going on a far-reaching journey with this project. Thank you for helping us get there.

Thank you so much for your support. We are putting all of our free time and more into this!

Love,
Jimme and Caedmonster

Mi Vida Loca!

Wow! What a crazy weekend I had! Totally indicative of the crazy life I live. It was awesome! The highlights? Saturday.

Saturday was a VERY SPECIAL day. Saturday, my stepson, or as we like to call him, "the gingerboy", returned from Camp Ten Trees after a whole week away! My partner's mom, "Momma Mary" -or- "Grammy" decided to tag along when we picked him up. What an awesome surprise, right??!! He thought so! It was very exciting to see him after his week away and hear his stories. He had a blast (which was such a relief to us moms), and he was ready to embark on his next adventure, which we literally drove him directly to from camp. We had a great 30 minutes of visiting with him in the car before dropping him off with his dad for a week long excursion with his dads side of the family. The kid has a busy social life, what can I say?

After we bid goodbye for another week to the gingerboy, we hopped back in the car and headed home to prep for the evening's activities. You see, I was slated to perform some of my new solo tracks (Live PA, no DJ set) at DJ Skiddle's "Grime" club-night at The Chapel, along with Sammy LaForge (who produced these solo tracks) and Ms. Lisa Dank & her White Widows. Momma Mary was planning on coming along with us for the evenings activities as well. Needless to say, after being up SUPER early to pick up the gingerboy from camp, we were all in need of a little disco nap to carry us through the early AM hours we were about to experience. So we all went to our seperate corners and got intimate with Mr. Sandman for a few.

Once our naps were out of the way, we were up and at 'em! My girlfriend and her mom getting ready for the evening, and me packing the outfit I planned on wearing later that evening for my performance. After our flurry of activity, we all hopped in the lezbaru and motored over to my good friend, DJ Mixxtress's house. Now, if you don't know DJ Mixxtress, you should TOTALLY check her out. Not only is she an incredibly talented DJ and turntablist, but she also beats a mean face. Which was our purpose for descending upon her abode this evening. Mixxtress has her shit on lock people. I had no idea she was about to transform my face!

While Mixxtress prepared her tools for the task at hand, we were treated to some amazing puppies. I can't remember the breed of the parents of these pups (both parents belong to Mixxtress and her boyfriend DJ Tre - also an amazingly talented, and quite accomplished DJ and turntablist), but they were DAMN CUTE. Mixxtress had cute all up in her grill that night though, as she was alos babysitting her niece, who was adorable and kept us entertained while Mixxtress worked her magic! After about an hour, Mixxtress was done. I was given a mirror, and voila, my face was beaten into a fierce look that matched my attitude for the evening! I was ready for my close-up! We bid Mixxtress goodbye and headed over to Chapel to do a mic check and prepare to perform.

Upon arriving at Chapel we rolled right up to the bar, ordered some tapas and a coupla cocktails and found ourselves a nice spot outside. Checked in with Skiddle and Sammy. Didn't get to really do a mic check, but was assured everything was on point. Then the troops started rolling through. First came Ms. Dank herself, who regaled us with tales from her 5 mile jaunt that day which included Hempfest and Ron Jeremy. That girl always has a story! Then came Wendy in to sell Jello Shots, Mr. Kevin Kauer stopping through on his way to Fringe, JT Hooker and his entourage, a little 'Fluffer' action thanks to Sammy LaForge, The White Widows....the place just kept fillin' up! Before long, it was showtime! I grabbed the mic, said 'check, check' twice...yep, I could hear myself, and bam! The show began.

The two songs I performed are a part of my up and coming release 'the eyes of laura kendall', dueout mid September. I have been working diligently, most of the summer with the sexy and talented Mr. Sammy LaForge. The songs are called 'Heteroflexible' and 'Brang those beats'. Sammy had flawlessly mixed them together. I performed one right after the other. It was awesome. The sound could have been better, but that's not shocking at Chapel. I performed right on the floor in front of the bar. The floor was packed and I worked that crowd. Video to come! It was a blast and I think, a great first run at my solo stuff. Thanks to everyone who came out to support! I really appreciate it!

After I performed we stuck around to see Lisa Dank & The White Widows do their thing. They also had some sound issues. Again, not shocking at Chapel. God bless it, it's a great space, and I am DJing there on Sept 4th (Saturday), and you should all come, but they could use a sound guy on staff for live performances. LD & The WW also performed 2 tracks, 'On The Radio' and 'Cookies'. Loving this 'On The Radio' track they are doing. It's really HOT. These ladies put on QUITE a show. If you haven't seen them yet, you really should. Hint: They are playing Bumbershoot on Monday, September 6th. Just sayin'....

Once the live performances were done, we kicked back a Jello shot and rallied Momma Mary, and our friends Ang & Jeanene for a stop by Fringe at The Eagle. It was a really quick pit stop. Momma Mary doesn't generally hang out in gay bars, and she also doesn't generally drink hard licks. So the circle jerk that was beginning to commence in the Eagle bathroom, and the 3 tall Tangeuray and Tonics she had ingested early had us thinkin' it was time to start our trek back to Canada. So we said our goodbyes and set off for home.

It had been a very good day. Family, friends, music...that's what it's all about, right?

Here we go now....

Welcome to my blog! Everyone's got a blog these days so why not me! ? Right??? Well I think so! I decided to start this blog in order to consolidate a few of my ventures into one singular portal for all my friends, fans, and those who may be curious to enjoy. My blog posts may be about up and coming events that I wish to support, artists that inspire me, music that I want to share, politics that I wish to vent about, hot sneakers that I wanna get my paws on, you name it, I plan on spewing it here. I also plan on using this 'portal' as a venue to release tracks and DJ mixes that I am working on. This is why I have decided to call this blog 'The Eyes Of Laura Kendall'. Basically, when you visit my blog, you will get a gander at things from my perspective! The title of my blog was inspired in part by one of my all time favorite movies 'The Eyes Of Laura Mars' (starring Faye Dunawaye and Tommy Lee Jones, circa 1978). If you haven't seen it, you should. It's outrageously cheesy, but filled to the brim with amazing music and fashion from that period. I have no idea where this blog is going to lead, though I do know where I would like it to go. Join me on my journey and let's discover where this crazy road takes us together, won't you?
